What are melodic minor modes?

The melodic minor modes/scales are derivative of the descending form of the melodic minor scale (the melodic minor scale is played differently ascending than descending).

7) Altered Scale (Superlocrian)

This mode is also known as “Superlocrian” because it is essentially the lydian of the locrian (for the key of C, that’s the Db lydian mode played starting on C).
